OUR FLAGSHIP BEAUTY THERAPY DIPLOMA

What sparked your interest in pursuing a career in beauty therapy? Was there a specific moment or experience that inspired you?

My passion for beauty and advanced skincare began while I was living overseas and working within the beauty industry. I was always drawn to the science behind skin health and the incredible advancements in technology that allowed for transformative results. I knew this was where I wanted to focus my career.

What was your main motivation to choose to study at The French Beauty Academy? What was it that drew you to study here?

After returning from overseas, The French Beauty Academy was the obvious choice for me. Their reputation for excellence, along with their focus on advanced skin care techniques, really aligned with my passion for technology-driven treatments. I wanted to be trained by the best and learn the most cutting-edge techniques, which The French delivered.

Do you remember your Orientation week? Can you share your experience or how you felt on those first few days/weeks.

I remember feeling both nervous and excited during my first days at The French. After being abroad for five years, it was thrilling to return to a structured learning environment. The support from staff and fellow students was amazing, and it quickly felt like I was exactly where I needed to be. Everyone was there for the same reason and had the same passions.

Reflecting on your time at The French, can you share a standout moment or memory?

My standout moment was being placed on the Principal’s List of Excellence during graduation. It was such an honour and a validation of all the hard work I had put into my studies. It’s a memory that continues to motivate me in my career.

What do you miss most about The French?

The community and constant exposure to learning. I miss being surrounded by other passionate individuals and educators who were always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in beauty therapy.

Did you have a favourite subject or Educator at The French? Why/What did you love most about it?

One of my favourite subjects was advanced skin treatments because it aligned with my passion for technology. I loved the challenge of understanding complex treatments and learning how to use them to deliver incredible results. My educators were always inspiring, pushing me to grow and perfect my techniques. Big shout out to Amy, Liz & Tiffany!

In what ways did The French help you develop personally and professionally?

The French Beauty Academy gave me the confidence to pursue my dream of opening my own clinic. It taught me how to be a professional in every aspect, from client care to running a business. Personally, it helped me become more disciplined, goal-oriented, and resilient.

Was there an invaluable lesson or any advice you received from The French that has stuck with you and continues to inspire you?

The most invaluable lesson I received was to stay true to my passion and never stop learning. The beauty industry is always evolving, and the best way to stay ahead is to keep growing, both personally and professionally.

How easy was it for you to gain work after graduating? Tell me about your first career ‘break’ in beauty?

While I was studying at The French Beauty Academy, I was already working at Brazilian Beauty, which provided a strong foundation in the fundamentals of beauty therapy. From there, I transitioned to Australian Skin Clinics, where I became the 2IC (furthering my experience. My next move was to a boutique clinic, where I entered the world of advanced skin treatments. These steps helped me build a strong, diverse skill set and opened the door for me to eventually start my own clinic.

Can you please tell us a bit about your business?

At Skin Studio by Laura, I’ve created an intimate, moody space where cutting-edge skin treatments meet a therapeutic and personal experience. With eight years of experience, I offer services such as chemical peels, skin needling, and the revolutionary Morpheus8, all tailored to meet individual skin needs.

Why did you decide to start your own business? Can you tell us a bit about your journey?

Starting my own business was a long-held dream, even when people told me it was too risky. After living overseas and gaining industry experience, I returned to Australia, studied at The French, and pursued my vision of creating a clinic that blends advanced skincare with personalized care. With the support of my partner and former manager, I took the leap, and Skin Studio by Laura was born.

What were the first few steps you took to set up the business?

The first steps involved finding the right location, designing the space, and sourcing the best equipment for advanced treatments. I also focused on building a strong brand that reflects my passion for results-driven skincare I personally went with Inmode for equipment and Ultracuticals and Dermalogica for skin care.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting your business, and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenge was taking the risk of opening a business when most people around me said it was a bad idea. I had to trust my vision and believe in myself. With the support of my partner, I pushed forward and didn’t let the doubts stop me I really just ignored everyone that said I was crazy and planned to prove them wrong.

What is a decision or perhaps a mistake you've made that has lead to a very valuable lesson in running or starting a business?

A valuable lesson I learned was not to listen to too many opinions. Everyone told me starting my own clinic was a mistake, but I knew I could make it work. Trusting myself and my passion has been key.

What did you learn during your time at The French that helped prepare you when starting your business or during the course of your business journey?

The French taught me the importance of professionalism and staying up to date with trends and technologies. These skills have been invaluable as I grow my clinic and offer the latest skin treatments to my clients

What are your plans for the future of your business, do you have an ultimate business goal?

My goal is to continue expanding and refining Skin Studio by Laura, eventually becoming a go-to destination for cutting-edge skin care treatments on the Gold Coast.

If you had just 1 piece of advice for our Frenchies who are wanting to start their own business, what would it be?

Don’t let fear stop you from pursuing your passion. If you have a vision, go for it. The biggest risk is not taking one at all
